Why it works

Variations

  • Box breathing: 4 in, 4 hold, 4 out, 4 hold. Used by special forces because it works under stress.
  • 4-7-8: inhale 4, hold 7, exhale 8. Stronger effect, takes more practice.
  • Just 'exhale longer than inhale' — the simplest version and still effective.
